The Shadow Ledger
“They will put you out of the synagogues. Indeed, the hour is coming when whoever kills you will think he is offering service to God.”
— Jesus · John 16:2The costs and complicities, graded like everything else — because a case this strong does not need a selective memory, and neither do we. His own words are the standard by which these entries are condemned.

Original image and licensingThis field exists because the atlas makes a strong claim, and strong claims do not get selective memory. Christian institutions developed systems of care and also supported crusades; some Christian abolitionists fought slavery while other Christians defended it; teachings about human dignity coexisted with persecution and coercion. Every entry below is graded and sourced by the same rules as the fields of light.
The verses on these cards are not decorations — they are the standard by which the entries are condemned, and it is the church's own standard, spoken by its Lord. Where confession and apology followed, the ledger records that too.
